Hyaluronic Acid Serum Questions
"Just wondering if your
HA serums
are watery or thicker in their consistency?"
They are nice and thick. Like all
HA serums they will eventually thin down, but
usually you will have finished them before this happens.
"I am trying to compare re
Pure Rose HA with another HA serum I am using at
the moment. Hyaluronic acid is listed first, but it then breaks down to
distilled water and sodium hyaluronate. ... Is there other water in your products?"
When companies list "Hyaluronic Acid" or "Sodium Hyaluronate" as the
main ingredient it can be a bit confusing. What they really mean is
“A large amount of water with a small amount of Sodium Hyaluronate dissolved in
it". That's what all HA serums consist of, regardless of how it's written.
Orthoderma lists ingredients in order of weight, to make it easy for
you to see what's what. So water goes first because it's heavy, then
Hyaluronic Acid/Sodium Hyaluronate
much later because it’s very light. There is no extra water - the serums
are pleasantly thick.
"Is the non-acidic vitamin C (MAP-C) gentle enough for sensitive skin?
Yes, that is what it's intended for - it's very gentle. Note, however,
that most "sensitive" skins quickly desensitize using the Orthoderma Protocol,
and can use
C-sational with no problem at all.
"What is the main difference between
Youth Food and
Tea for Two?
Tea for Two is very simple - just four teas and
Gotu Kola, so it's very clean-feeling and gently protective.
Youth Food has more complexity - it's based in
Aloe Vera and has MSM, so it does more to feed and support the structure
of your skin.
"Is your Hyaluronic Acid pharmaceutical
grade?"
Yes it is.
Emu & Rosehip Oil Questions
"I was wondering what type of
emu oil you use in your products and, if you are
familiar with LB Processors Ultra Emu oil, how does it compare?
It is our understanding that LB Processor's Ultra Emu has been processed to adjust the proportions of various
elements in the oil, to change its properties and cosmetic feel.
At Orthoderma we use pure
Australian Emu Oil from Emus raised in
their native environment in Australia.
We do not alter our natural ingredients, preferring to leave them
whole so that they confer the full spectrum of their natural benefits.
Mother Nature generally knows best, and she has been working on this product,
so prized by Aboriginal people, for 80 million years.
We selected as our raw material supplier the first
Emu Oil producer ever to have their product
laboratory certified as "Food Grade" and listed on the Australian Therapeutic
Goods Register for its research-proven anti-inflammatory properties.
"Is the texture of your
Emu Oil grainy at all, or smooth?
The texture is smooth. There is nothing in it that would cause a grainy feeling.
"What is the shelf-life of your
Emu Oil?"
Emu Oil seems to have a naturally long shelf
life. Officially you’d have no problem using it for 8 weeks after opening,
provided you are careful not to get bacteria in it. In reality it may last
very much longer than that.
"Is your
Emu Oil certified as to its purity? (In the US
there is a regulatory body called AEA that certifies emu oil purity.)
Yes. Each batch from our supplier is tested by Food Laboratories (Aust) Pty Ltd,
a GMP licensed laboratory - Good Manufacturing Practice, a government
certification. The purity is ascertained by Oral Toxicity Testing
(Pharmatox T2334).
It’s the first Emu Oil in the world ever to have this, and means that it can be
(and is) listed on the Australian Register of Therapeutic Goods (ARTG).
"I've read that Emu Oil helps create a tan but can aggravate melasma, is
that true?"
Emu oil seems to support the healthy production of melanin in the skin - the
dark pigment which is responsible for tanning. The effect is slight and
not always noticeable, but if you have clear skin the result can sometimes be
a lovely half shade darker.
As for Melasma, it's unclear. This seems to be mostly hormone driven.
However, if you have hyperpigmentation problems of any kind and it really
bothers you, to play it safe you might prefer to use
Rosebuddy instead of
Emu Oil.
"Why is sesame oil used in some of your products?"
We add a dash of Sesame oil for its rather unique and resilient anti-oxidant properties.
Mixing & Layering Questions
Product Compatibility Questions
"I have ordered Renova 0.025 and would like to know how I would use it along with your
products."
Renova is fine to use at the same time as most Orthoderma products, as they are very
compatible. Tretinoin / Retin-A type products actually seem to work better
when accompanied by
MAP-C or
C-sational Vitamin C serums.
To make the most of Renova's active ingredient be sure to use it under, not
over, any moisturizers. Also take care, because Tretinoin products
can cause extra dryness, UV-induced pigmentation and skin sensitivity.
Rosebuddy is a very
soothing complement to Tretinoin therapy.
"For 8 months I was
using ** *** Copper Peptides ... and I have damaged my skin ... I stopped using
them [but] my skin does not seem to be "bouncing" back. Now my skin is VERY dry
and dehydrated and my wrinkles are deeper and I have new ones across my cheeks
... My skin looks very aged and stressed ... Please can you give me some
advice?"
We hear this story far too often. Fortunately the problem does seem to be
remediable for most people by using the right products. Merely "resting"
the skin for a few weeks or even months simply does not seem to work in these
cases.
To really get your skin back on track fast - and better than before - we
recommend that you try this:
-
C-sational 22% every morning.
(Alternatively,
C-sational 16% or
MAP-C.)
-
Emutality or
Emutable once or twice a day.
-
Rosebuddy every evening.
-
Pure Rose HA or
Tea for Two or
Youth Food over the top of
Emutality/Emutable and
Rosebuddy.
Please let us know how you go with this protocol. We have had some
interesting and impressive successes, and are keen to hear about your results
and experiences.
Preservative Questions
"What kind of preservatives do you
use? / What is Plantaserve?
We use a very low level of preservatives as required, and none at all when we
can get away with it.
Plantaserve is the closest we can get to a natural preservative
that is actually effective. Most importantly it's paraben-free and
formaldehyde-free. It's based on phenoxyethanol.
